It is our great honor and privilege to hold the International Training Course in Advanced Laparoscopic Common Bile Duct Surgery. The course will take place at the Joan XXIII University Hospital, right in the city centre of Tarragona (Spain), from November 19th till November 21st 2019.

The course is designed for consultant surgeons, general surgery senior trainees and theatre nurses with special interest in the laparoscopic approach for common bile duct stones. It aims to provide participants with the theoretical and practical basis for the initiation of a laparoscopic programme for the treatment of choledocholithiasis. The course will include aspects such as intraoperative cholangiography, intraoperative ultrasound, use of transcystic and transcoledocal choledochoscopy, laser lithotripsy, laparoscopic dissection and suture of the bile duct. Handling and optimal use of choledoscope will be emphasised.

The course will be divided in three parts:

1. Live retransmission of a surgical intervention with the possibility of interaction between the surgical team and the participants.

2. Theory. The diagnostic and therapeutic protocols based on current evidence will be explained. The different management options for the patients with choledocholithiasis and concomitant cholelithiasis will also be summarised.

3. Real practice in a pelvitrainer with an animal model, including the use of intraoperative choledochoscopy and ultrasound, extraction of bile duct stones and laparoscopic choledocorraphy

We sincerely hope this training course will be successful and meaningful. We will provide a scientific programme containing state-of-the art lectures, live surgery and a hands-on surgical laboratory.

Looking forward to seeing you in Tarragona.

Warm regards,

Rosa Jorba
